STIMULUS STRENGTH - RESPONSE RELATIONSHIP

In this experiment the AMPLITUDE of the compound action potential is measured as the stimulus voltage applied to the nerve is varied.

Stimulus voltage is chosen by clicking a voltage box on the stimulator.

The amplitude of the monophasic action potential evoked by each stimulus should be measured from the monitor screen.

Use the graph plotter to plot a graph of the amplitude of CNAP in mV (y-axis) against the stimulus voltage in volts (x-axis).

ASSIGNMENT ONE

After the experiment...

  1. Draw a graph of CNAP amplitude in mV (y-axis) versus stimulus voltage in volts (x-axis).
  2. Explain the relationship between the stimulus voltage and the amplitude of the response.
  3. How would this relationship differ if the experiment was conducted on a single nerve fibre?
