How are they transported in the bloodstream?

• Steroid hormones are not water soluble.
• They are transported in blood bound to transport proteins.
• Some proteins have specific blood transport functions (e.g. transcortin transports cortisol).
• Some hormones bind non-specifically to proteins like albumin.
• Binding to proteins protects the hormone from metabolism and renal excretion.
