This type of flow occurs in a normal artery and is inaudible.

When the velocity of blood flow exceeds a critical value laminar flow is disrupted and becomes TURBULENT.

Turbulent blood flow is audible and gives rise to the sounds of Korotkoff when the the cuff pressure partially constricts the artery.
