The cuff is a cloth-covered rubber pouch which is wrapped around the upper arm. The cuff maybe inflated using the pump to apply a pressure to the arm and compress the artery against the bone.

It is normal to use the brachial artery and place the stethoscope over this artery just below the cuff.
