Investigating The Cases
There are nine different cases that may be selected separately from the menu that follows this screen.
Once a case has been selected you will be presented with a brief case history and details of the red blood cell indices for that patient. The first objective is to make an initial diagnosis within the four main categories of anaemia - iron deficient, megaloblastic, haemolytic and aplastic. In order to help you to do this, additional information may be accessed including, for example, details of the peripheral blood film. A glossary of terms is also available from the sub-menu previous to this section.
Once the initial classification is made, a more specific diagnosis is expected based on the results of relevant further tests. If an incorrect diagnosis is made (either preliminary or final) help is given to the user which should facilitate a correct diagnosis.
