Aims:
To present data to demonstrate the effects of the diuretic hydrochlorothiazide on plasma electrolyte concentrations and urine output of water and electrolytes in a water loaded subject.

Objectives:
On completion of this section of the program you should be able to:

1. describe how the plasma electrolyte concentrations and urine output of water and electrolytes differ from water-loading values when a subject is given hydrochlorothiazide.
2. suggest a mechanism for the diuretic action of hydrochlorothiazide.
