Introduction

This program simulates a number of experiments which can be performed on the frog sciatic nerve - gastrocnemius muscle preparation to investigate some of the mechanical properties of muscle.

The Preparation
Isolation and removal of the sciatic nerve - gastrocnemius muscle preparation form the frog is relatively straightforward.

Additional Information

The Sciatic Nerve
The sciatic nerve is the major nerve of the sacral plexus in humans and largest nerve in the body. It comprises two nerves; the common peroneal and the tibial nerves which contain nerve fibres arising from spinal roots L4-S2. Branches supply many of the muscles of the thigh and lower limb.
