<p><b>The Coagulometer</b></p>
<p>The system comprises a light source (LED) which directs a beam of light through the plasma sample. The degree of light scattering is measured by a light sensor, transduced to an electrical signal and displayed on the scale.</p>
<p>A rise in plasma turbidity occurs as the clot forms increasing the amount of light scattering (nephelometry).  The degree of light scatter is measured at 90° with respect to the incident light.</p>
<p>The time taken for maximum light scattering to occur is displayed.</p>
