Jimmy Volmink
Dr Jimmy Volmink is the Head of the Department of Primary Care at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. He previously worked as the Director of Research and Analysis at the Global Health Council in Washington DC, USA and as the director of the South African Cochrane Centre located in Cape Town, South Africa. He serves on committees and advisory boards of various international organizations, including the Cochrane Collaboration and the World Health Organization. He is an editor of the Cochrane Infectious Diseases Group and has authored numerous journal articles and book chapters. His main research interests are tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS. Jimmy Volmink has taught courses in epidemiology and evidence-based health care to various categories of health professionals at the undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate levels in a number of countries, and has held visiting professorships in Europe and in the U.S.A. He is also a full member of the Academy of Sciences of South Africa. He received his B.S. in biochemistry and his M.D. at the University of Cape Town, South Africa, his DCH from the College of Medicine in South Africa, his MPH from Harvard University and his D. Phil. from the University of Oxford, England.
