Gijs Walraven
Gijs Walraven, MD, MPH, PhD, worked for seven years as Medical Officer, Medical Superintendent of a district hospital, and Regional Primary Health Care Co-ordinator in north-west Tanzania. From 1996 to 2003 he was Head of the Farafenni Field Station, and Head of the Reproductive Health Programme of the Medical Research Council Laboratories, the Gambia, West Africa. Currently he is Director, Community Health, Aga Khan Health Services (AKHS), based in the Social Welfare Department at the Secretariat of His Highness the Aga Khan in Aiglemont, France. Aga Khan Health Services provides not-for-profit health-care services in India, Pakistan, Kenya, Syria, Uganda and the United Republic of Tanzania. It is also developing community health services in other areas of need, including Tajikistan and Afghanistan.
