Daniel Grossman
Dr. Daniel Grossman is an obstetrician-gynecologist with extensive training in both basic and clinical research, and he has held the position of Health Specialist at the Population Council’s Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) since 2003. Prior to joining the Council, he was in practice at St. Luke’s Hospital in San Francisco. He also maintains a clinical faculty appointment at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences, and he continues to mentor medical students in his current position at the Council. Dr. Grossman holds a B.S. in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry from Yale University and an M.D. from Stanford University. He completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at UCSF.
Dr. Grossman’s current research interests include unsafe abortion in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), as well as ways to increase access to legal abortion in the region; sexually transmitted infections; increasing access to contraception, including emergency contraception; and prevention of maternal mortality.
In addition to his work in the LAC region with the Council, he has been a member of the Marie Stopes International (MSI) Medical Development Team since 2002, and he has worked with MSI in Nicaragua, Kenya and Vietnam. He has also worked clinically for short periods in Mali and the former Zaire, and while at Stanford, he worked at the U.S. Naval Medical Research Unit in Jakarta, Indonesia.
