Overview of the Module
This module will enable students to apply knowledge, skills, and appropriate attitudes acquired from Biosciences, Advanced Physiology of Obstetrics, and Advanced Midwifery Science modules in the provision of advanced antenatal, labour, and postnatal care to individuals and families. Emphasis is placed on promoting evidence based and culturally sensitive care. Students are also encouraged to be innovative and demonstrate ability to interpret the physiological, pathophysiological, sociological, psychological and spiritual processes and their implications on maternal health outcomes. Module learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this module learners shall be able to:

* Demonstrate competence in providing advanced midwifery care to individuals and their families during the perinatal period
* Utilize findings from critical analysis of perinatal statistics for improvement of care
* Develop models of Midwifery care based on the analysis of care
* Function as a member of a multidisciplinary team and take a lead in safe decision making strategies during provision of midwifery care
* Demonstrate advanced skills in client assessment and provision of care
* Assess all dimensions of selective Midwifery services consistent with the components of the nursing metaparadigm (client, health, nursing, environment)
* Identify gaps in the provision of midwifery services
* Act as consultant to units, clients, and other health care professional towards the development of better maternal health services and nursing care
* Outline recommendations and solutions to address the identified gaps
