OVERVIEW OF THE MODULE

This module builds on students’ previous knowledge in anatomy and physiology of obstetrics, and basic midwifery. The module provides in-depth knowledge of advanced physiology and midwifery practice. Emphasis is placed on the students’ ability to interpret the physiological and pathophysiological changes for advanced midwifery practice.

(iii) Make sure that you complete all activities under each unit

(iv) Actively participate in class and seminars.


MODULE LEARNING OUTCOMES

Upon completion of this module learners shall be able to:

a) critically analyze the advanced midwifery role;

b) evaluate international and national initiatives in midwifery that address maternal and child health care;

c) analyze current trends and issues in midwifery care;

d) analyze policies, protocols, guidelines and standards influencing midwifery care;

e) Discuss the processes and determinants of conception, genetics, embryonic and fetal development;

f) Analyze the physiological and pathophysiological processes of pregnancy, labor, and the pueperium;

g) Analyze management of clients during the preconceptual period, pregnancy, labour, and the pueperium.


ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

The criteria is developed to assist you master the content for each unit. Students will be assessed through seminars and individual projects.

Seminars comprise 40% while projects will be contribute 60% of the total grade

i) Provide students with modules containing expected learning outcomes, content areas, students’ activities, assessment criteria and methods.
