MODULE DESCRIPTOR

This module is designed to enable students apply knowledge, skills and appropriate attitudes acquired from nursing, biological and behavioural sciences in the management of adult patients with chronic/terminal conditions. Emphasis is placed on surveillance, patient family education, maintenance of health, rehabilitation and needs based approaches and where applicable end of life care.

AIM OF MODULE

To enable students develop competencies in the provision of nursing care to adult patients with chronic/terminal conditions.

MODULE LEARNING OUTCOMES

Upon completion of this module learners shall be able to:-

a) Utilize the needs based approach and incorporate selected nursing theories in the provision of holistic nursing care to adult patients with chronic/terminal conditions.

b) Utilize principles of pharmacology in the administration of drugs to patients with chronic/terminal conditions

c) Collaborate with other health care providers to support patient care in a variety of settings

d) Provide palliative nursing care to terminally ill adult patients within acceptable cultural and ethical expectations.

e) Restore the optimum level of functioning utilizing all the essential elements in the care of HIV/AIDS clients

f) Participate in home based care practice.
