OVERVIEW OF THE MODULE
This module provides you with the theoretical framework for leadership and management and concepts that will assist you to apply in critical thinking, decision making and problem solving related to management and leadership of health care programs, projects and organizations. The module is also intended to assist you to embrace the changing roles in health care management and help you as a health professional to anticipate, plan and create health environments for providing high quality care especially in nursing and midwifery.

HOW TO USE THE MODULE
This module has a total of six units which you must complete in sequential order.
Learning is an active process. Do all the activities as you work through the text so you can be sure you really understand what you have read.
All references quoted must be read to expand your knowledge of the module but read all required references as these are directly relevant to your achievement of study outcomes.
Remember this is a practical course.

MODULE LEARNING OUTCOMES
Upon completion of this module learners shall be able to:
· Value the significance of critical thinking, decision making and problem solving skills in management and leadership
· Analyze the role of leadership and management in creating a conducive working environment for staff and therapeutic milieu for clients and patients
· Critically evaluate various organizational structures, cultures as well as power bases in organizations and their influence on health care delivery systems
