OVERVIEW OF MODULE

This module introduces you to nursing and other health related conceptual models and theoretical frameworks.The module will assist you to understand the origin, evolution, process of development, and the impact of the models and theories on nursing practice, research, education, and management.In addition the module will assist you to critically analyze selected conceptual models and theoretical frameworks.It also will enable you to apply models and theories to practice and research.

Information is provided on how to use the module,expected learning outcomes, content, assessment criteria, and learning contracts for the student and the lecturer/s who teach the module. The module is comprised of 5 units and under each unit there is specification of student’s activities. Assessment of the module will be by seminar presentations and the writing of a state of the science paper. The conceptual models and theoretical frameworks module is one of the core modules; therefore, successful completion of the module is a pre-requisite for second semester modules.

HOW TO USE THE MODULE

The module serves as a guide to learning outcomes, content, assignments, evaluation criteria, and references for conceptual models and theoretical frameworks.

As a supplement to the module you are expected to:

i.Read widely on the content area for each unit utilizing books, journals, Internet, and other resources.

ii.Consult widely on each topic, including collaboration with colleagues.

iii.Do all activities for each unit

iv.Keep notes from readings, presentations, and activity work for future reference.

MODULE LEARNING OUTCOMES

Upon completion of this module you shall be expected to:

i.Delineate the process of developing conceptual models and theoretical frameworks.

ii.Articulate the significance of nursing and health-related theories in nursing practice, research, education, and management

iii.Analyze selected conceptual models and theoretical frameworks of nursing and related health fields for specialized practice

iv.Assess the current state of the science of a phenomenon of interest directly related to Child Health Nursing
