OVERVIEW OF THE MODULE

The module provides the learner with the opportunity to develop and synthesize knowledge, skills and appropriate attitudes necessary for implementation of good nursing and midwifery practice. It will promote an in-depth understanding of principles and concepts which are essential in nursing/midwifery practice. Emphasis is placed on enabling students to develop a beginning understanding of the nursing process as a problem solving approach, and an understanding of caring as a concept critical to both nursing and midwifery practice. Emphasis is also placed on helping students to acquire basic nursing skills.

MODULE LEARNING OUTCOMES
Upon completion of this module, learners shall be able to:

· Discuss the historical developments and current influences on nursing profession and values underpinning nursing practice.
· Explain the role of the nursing in meeting patient/client basic needs utilizing problem solving approach
· Demonstrate reflective skills appropriate for their level.
· Demonstrate appropriate skills in performing fundamental nursing procedures
