OVERVIEW OF THE MODULE

MODULE DESCRIPTION

This module emphasizes the development of advanced knowledge and skills for improving mental health outcomes for communities. The focus is placed on assessment, detection and management of Common Mental health Problems (CMHPs) in the community; developing mental health promotion and consultation/referral to relevant professionals. The learners will also analyse the policies and legislations governing the provision of mental health services.

HOW TO USE THE MODULE
As you are using this module, you are expected to do the following:
a. Read widely the content area under each unit utilizing books, journals, and internet resources.
b. Consult widely on each topic including collaboration with colleagues
c. Perform all activities for each unit
d. Participate actively in class and during seminar presentations

MODULE LEARNING OUTCOMES
Upon completion of this module learners will be able to:
a. Identify, assess and manage CMHPs in the community
b. Evaluate the Primary Health Care approach in provision of mental health services in the community
c. Discuss referral, consultation, liaison, and advocacy functions of community health nurse
d. Identify and develop skills in promoting mental health of the community
e. Analyse policies and legislations in relation to community mental health
