OVERVIEW OF THE MODULE The module introduces you to Advanced Community Health Nursing. The module will give you an opportunity to examine community health issues and relevant policies and strategies which impact on community health and subsequently the health of the community. In addition, it will help you to interpret and influence improved management of community health problems that impact on health. Information is provided on how to use the module, expected learning outcomes, assessment criteria, learning contract of the student and coordinating lecturer and content areas for the module. The module comprises 5 units and under each unit there are specifications for students’ activities. Assessment of the module will be by seminar presentations, examinations and a project. The Community health module is a core module for this programme, therefore, you are required to pass the module before you proceed to the next semester. MODULE DESCRIPTION This module is designed to provide the learners with advanced knowledge and skills of community health nursing, and foster appropriate attitudes, to enable them to assess and analyze the health of communities. Learners will use this data to address community health needs using evidence based approaches. The focus of this module is on application of theCommunity Health Nursing Process and analysis of relevant community health programs and policies. Learners will also analyse current trends and issues in community health nursing. HOW TO USE THE MODULE The module has 5 units and activities that you must make sure you do. As you are using this module, you are expected to do the following: i. Read widely the content area under each unit utilizing books, journals and e-resources ii. Consult widely on each topic including collaboration with colleagues iii. Do all activities for each unit in the order in which they are presented iv. Keep notes from readings, presentations, or any activity work in a file as these can come in handy for revision for examination MODULE LEARNING OUTCOMES Upon completion of this module learners shall be able to: a. Discuss a comprehensive community assessment. b. Plan population interventions utilizing articulated health promotion models. c. Evaluate the Primary Health Care Approach to population health. d. Analyze interventions and initiatives addressing community health programs. e. Develop tools to assess, monitor, evaluate and strengthen community health programmes and systems f. Discuss current trends and issues in community health nursing
