Behavioural Sciences (BEH 101)

This module embodies the disciplines of psychology and sociology and their application to nursing and midwifery sciences. The module also provides mandatory information on HIV infection, prevention and life skills. 

The module comprises three parts:

Part 1 - Sociology which includes 10 Units

Part 2 - Psychology which includes 4 Units

Part 3 - HIV infection and AIDS which includes 9 Units

The aims of this module are to prepare students to:

(1) Discuss sociological concepts relevant to nursing and midwifery

(2) Explain psychological theories related to nursing and midwifery practice

(3) Discuss HIV infection, prevention and life skills

(4) Apply these theories and concepts to nursing and midwifery practice 

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this module the student will be able to:

(1) Demonstrate sociological concepts relevant to nursing and midwifery

(2) Apply psychological theories related to nursing and midwifery practice

(3) Discuss HIV infection, prevention and life skills and apply to their personal practice

Lectures, group discussions, enquiry based learning, directed and self-directed study

Method of Assessment

End of module examination and individual projects

Continuous assessment: 40%

End of year : 60%
